About Us

History
The County Leitrim Society of Boston was revived in 1994 by a group of Leitrim exiles in the Boston area, in the aftermath of Leitrim’s historic Connacht Football Championship victory. The original society had gone out of the existence in the 1950’s. We number around 200 members, and consist of natives of County Leitrim, (a county in the North West of Ireland), people of Leitrim extraction and anyone with an interest in Leitrim, or Ireland in general.

Our past presidents:
1995-1997 Frank O’Rourke
1997-1999 Jim Gallagher
1999-2001 Theresa Mawn
2001-2003 John McGrath
2005-2007
2007-2009
2009-2011
2011-2013 Maura Weir
2013-Present Derek Mawn

Events
The first event we held was a Spring Dance in the AOH Hall in Watertown in April 1995, and we have held a Spring Dance every year since. We also hold an annual Christmas party and occasionally throw in sporting outings such as our Golf Tournament, and ski trip. Other activities have included trips to the Catskill Mountains in New York, The Leitrim – New York Football game in May 2003, and whitewater rafting expeditions. Check out our TEST page for a review of these activities.

Proceeds
Proceeds from our events go to charities and worthy causes. Over the years we have donated thousands of dollars, to numerous charitable organizations and worthy causes in Leitrim and Boston.

Monthly Meeting
We hold our monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at Gerard’s Restaurant in Adams Village, Dorchester at 8 PM. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!
